What is an intuitive design (ID)?
A design that is intuitive, feels right to the user. It is intuitive and efficient as well as readable. It also gives a sense that it is reliable. The most reliable websites, for instance, are easy to use and deliver the results expected. If a site does not satisfy these expectations users will immediately go seeking a site that does.
The creation of intuitive products requires a team effort. Product designers, UX designer and product managers must collaborate to design products that fit the mental model of how the product ought to perform. This isn’t an easy task. Different people have a range of mental models, depending on their age, their previous experience with the type of product as well as their beliefs and knowledge as well as their concentration levels.
In the process of designing it is crucial to incorporate usability testing into an element of the overall design. This can help determine areas of the design that diverge from the mental model of the user and then fix them prior to releasing the product.
To create user-friendly products, the design must always match the function. However, it is also important to involve the user at the very beginning of the design process. For example, asking the product owner what they’d like to achieve with the product and what they would like to achieve to accomplish that task is a great way to begin. This information should be given to the UX designer who will incorporate it into the product UI.
